The Waterfront on picturesque Durham Pond provides Scouts and leaders alike with the tools to be skillful and at home in the water, and relaxed and confident in their ability to swim well.  Instruction is provided in self-preservation, methods of aiding others when necessary, and properly using and caring for aquatic equipment.  Scouts will have fun in and out of the water, develop strong and coordinated bodies, and be provided with activities that will have recreational values later in life.

Shooting Sports

There is nothing more exciting to a Scout than to shoot a rifle, shotgun or bow and arrow for the first time.  The only thing more exciting is actually hitting your target that first time.  Our Shooting Sports program gives Scouts the opportunity to achieve that excitement.  We have added more free and open shooting times for Scouts to shoot that are not in the badge.  We hope to see you at the new open times at the range.  See how well you can shoot in our three areas.  Test your skill against your buddies, or even your Scoutmaster.

* Open shooting is for all scouts regardless of ability level. Skill can be practiced and developed. Merit badge requirements can be completed or Scouts can learn to shoot for the first time. Shooting sports merit badges require proficiency in the skill, which is developed with practice.

Rifle Range NRA classifications, NRA/BSA postal match, special awards shooting will be conducted in open shooting.

NRA  classifications  are awarded for a series of ten  targets fired for progressively higher scores. Certificates are presented and patches pins or medals may be purchased for each level.

NRA/BSA postal match consists  targets fired for high score  each week representing  the shooter and Winnebago against  scouts in camps all across the country. Hat pin, belt buckle  and trophy plaque are awarded to high scorer each week, and for the season.

Can you earn a TOP GUN award?? Come to the Rifle Range during open shooting and try.

Shotgun Range shooting after the merit badge session is OPEN SHOOTING

Rifle and Shotgun Shooting merit badge scouts will meet Sunday night after boating instruction before the campfire. Any scout interested in these merit badges should attend. Rifle and Shotgun Shooting merit badge will meet in the evening after the ranges close to cover the non-shooting merit badge requirements. MTWT.

This additional instruction is offered as a supplement to the daily sessions and anyone interested in the shooting sports. Wildlife conservation, history and safety of shooting sports are some of the areas covered in these discussions.

All scouts beginning the shooting sports merit badges are advised to read the merit badge book and become familiar with the requirements and material prior to summer camp. This applies to all merit badges to enable him to make the most of the very limited time available in this exciting outdoor setting.

Muzzle Loading black powder demo and shoot  happens after lunch. The adult leader Old Man of the Mountain also is an after lunch event. Briar patch Challenge is an SPL event at the Shotgun range…..After lunch.

Scoutcraft

Winnebago’s Scoutcraft Area will bring you back to the Baden-Powell days of Scouting.  Scoutcraft will help Scouts develop basic hiking and camping skills, teach them to appreciate and understand the outdoors by making the best use of their own faculties and their natural surroundings, and provide them with the knowledge of health and safety practices so they may develop healthy mental attitudes and physical fitness.  The Scoutcraft Area awaits all those who think they have what it takes to survive.

overnight than in the past.  We will offer 2 outpost opportunities to complete this

requirement.  Scouts who do not attend the Outpost must complete the requirement as a

prerequisite if they wish to complete the badge.

**Cooking Merit Badge has been revised to such an extent that it cannot be completed in camp.

***First Aid Merit Badge requires a lot of preparation prior to camp and time devoted to practicing

skills outside of class.

Handicraft

Winnebago’s Handicraft Area addresses the Scout’s desire to make something with his hands.  The projects available answer the creative urge in boys to make something, and to improve their environment by making things of beauty and usefulness from nature’s materials.  The Troop and Patrol can also benefit because skills learned and interests peaked can become part of the year-round program, giving the Scouts a foundation in handicraft materials to work with, tools, and how to improvise.
